I, personally, don't think that they have been anything other than a success.

John, I don't think I've enjoyed a wargame as much as 8th Edition. I guess that is in part because the army I most enjoy playing - Skaven - works well under the rules. However, I think that given minimal comp all armies can be competitive and it gets more so as more books are released.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13835921145774599372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2342928539214422457.post-7987241339351171552012-05-31T19:35:53.846+12:002012-05-31T19:35:53.846+12:00Pete are there any 8th ed rules that you don't...Pete are there any 8th ed rules that you don't like?John Tailbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10518208348459114267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2342928539214422457.post-82346117616586668262012-05-31T16:16:04.179+12:002012-05-31T16:16:04.179+12:00I don't agree that the basics are wrong. I haven't played under the no more than 12PD at any time but I don't necessarily have a problem with it.

I personally don't think there is a need to limit generation of dice to two (and it's not something I would include by choice).

I think the mechanisms work really well for magic. The phase is both a challenge and interesting. It is not now just built from a defensive standpoint. It is one of the key contributers to what for me is now a more challenging game.

For that reason I happily award it an "A".

However I acknowledge I really enjoy 8th Edition. I look forward to playing it more than I did 7th and the change to magic supports this. So I'm a happy bunny. I think GW have got things pretty right.....and it gets righter with each new 8th Ed book. Generally I'm a cynic, here I'm happy to be an optimist :-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13835921145774599372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2342928539214422457.post-12104412810826660852012-05-31T15:55:45.724+12:002012-05-31T15:55:45.724+12:00How can you give the magic rules an 'A' wh...How can you give the magic rules an 'A' when in every competition, the basic rules are changed:
No more than 12 dice period
Can not generate more than 2 dice (normally)

Not saying I don't like the magic rules and certainly with ruminations and daggers from old books the max. of two dice is required.

But normally you struggle to get a pass mark if you get the basic's wrong.Raymondnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2342928539214422457.post-3582863562812677262012-05-30T21:32:06.474+12:002012-05-30T21:32:06.474+12:00I agree with everything here. I really just love the feel of the rules; it really seems to get across the Wizards trying to harness the Winds of magic.

My only tiny gripe is that a Magic free list isn't really viable unless you play Dwarfs, but that doesn't bother me so much, if I play a Fantasy game, I'm damn well gonna use a Wizard!Ross Hillier-Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12192094085796683789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2342928539214422457.post-86389238476898627472012-05-30T20:59:03.216+12:002012-05-30T20:59:03.216+12:00Thanks.....nice to know my thought processes were ...Thanks.....nice to know my thought processes were consistent :-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13835921145774599372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2342928539214422457.post-6021983948691498302012-05-30T19:51:29.384+12:002012-05-30T19:51:29.384+12:00Your A was entirely predictable!Your A was entirely predictable!Nordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16939206270751544079noreply@blogger.com
