Goodbye Slaanesh?

Hard on the heels of exploding the Warhammer World, Games Workshop look like they far from satisfied in redefining the background.

So after you blow up a world, what's left? Kill a God, that's what!

The new AoS fluff apparently only mentions Slaanesh once in the storyline.

"Against Sigmar's orders, Lord Tyrion led his improbable allies to capture Slaanesh whilst he was still glutted with the souls he had devoured."

It also includes an illustration of the pantheon of the Dark Gods where Khorne, Nurgle and Tzeentch are prominently displayed but Slaanesh is strangely missing.

There is some conjecture on why this is so but I'm picking that it is in response to the demographic GW is now chasing. The box set is marked "12+" and we can't have Little Timmy being corrupted by the Prince of Pleasure. Far easier to retire Slaanesh rather than have to explain to Soccer Mum models with barely covered breasts and embracing the philosophy of hedonism.

This is a progression of a strategy of the past few years. The Juan Diaz Daemonettes were replaced with more child-friendly models during the last cycle.

I'm betting we won't be seeing any Slaanesh releases for AoS any time soon.

  1. Done for fluff reasons and calling it now.

AoS is being setup as the historical precursor to 40k. You need to "lose" Slaanesh before the Eldar can "create" Slaanesh.

    1. Possible Dave. Interesting to see if that is the case. Still no new Slaanesh models for foreseeable future if that is the play.

    2. if they are dropping Slaanesh from the daemon realm, will they then drop it from the 40k range as well? it seems pointless to remove pink daemons from AOS on moral grounds and then have them on the other side of the store on 40k land.

    1. Well, they'll need to make up their minds at some point. Flies in the face of Dave's theory above....and mine.

  3. Nooooo GW. As an ardent Slaanesh supporter (the more interesting of the 4 gods in either setting IMO) this is another nail in the coffin for me.

  4. Looks like the Great Horned One has taken Slaanesh's seat at the table. Welcome to the family Pete (watch your back).

  6. Really...? And once again gore, violence, dismemberment get a free pass as opposed to the nuanced elements that make up Slaneesh.
"Oh Johnny cant have bare flesh in his army, but that Satan Demon like creature gorging on the blood of crushed hapless victims, murdered in a fanatical orgy of violence, is perfectly fine"

    1. It's well known that children can be irreparably damaged by exposure to breasts, particularly at a young age. However children have been shown to be able to deal with huge amounts of violence and be just fine.

      Oh wait...
