Age of Sigmar-ines

So the list of box contents posted this week was 100% wrong.

Here are the first actual pics:

To say the aesthetic is a bit of a shock is an understatement.

  1. Yes, they look more like something i'd expect to see in Warmachine.
That being said, i'll give them a day or so to grow on me before I start making any rash statements.

The blurry piccies are irritating. Honestly, in this day and age how hard is it to take a clear photograph of something??

  2. The chaos models look pretty cool

  3. Those other models look like repatriated Blood Angel Honour Guard. At least from this picture.

  4. Hmm, old school Space Marines... I hate Space Marines. Not cool Games Workshop.

  5. The Internets are on fire and also my phone. Here I've posted and not really acknowledged this AoS. That of course means everyone should bother you about it Pete. That imaginary red shirt looks good on ya.

    1. Makes them look like Grey Knights aka the guy in the realm of chaos that shoots blue bolts out his wrist from EoT

  7. Yup. My knee jerk is Space Marines and CSM.
Blood Angels. Meh. I'll also let it digest...

  8. While they are technically very nice models I'm not thrilled. They belong in 40k or warmachine (both games I like mind you). Perhaps the GW plan is make fantasy = 40k, therefore 40k lovers will buy and play 'fantasy'?

If I saw them across the table from a real fantasy army my immersion would be shattered.

This is all based on the blurry pic from a white dwarf though, maybe different paint scheme and more info to come will change things? I'm running out of optimism though.

  9. GW have dropped the ball on this. AoS has borrowed an aesthetic from 40K and Warmachine (perfectly fine games in their own right) not the aesthetic of 30 years of developed contemporary fantasy.

    2. The age of Sigmarines is upon us. Well put. I might as well have kept my Blood Angels.

  10. It reminds me of the game Chronopia actually. In every way - even the logo is reminiscent.

Afaik Chronopia rights were bought by Prodos Games who currently do its scifi equivalent Warzone Resurrection. Mantic might not be the only ones eyeing IP infringements.

I'm not a fan tbh... any mention yet of how many banks you'd have to rob to buy it?

  11. I don't know... I think the Assault Marines look kinda cool.

  12. They share the same aesthetic as some of The End Times models. The less popular ones...

Everyone raved about the Blight Kings and to me these models were the closest to the older models whilst still being new and fresh.

The Khorne skull whatevers on the other hand were nowhere near as well recieved and yet the models above are nearly identical in style

    Why didn't GW recognise this?

  13. Those Ultraknight Sigmarines will fit in perfectly with the Verminators and World Eater Chaos Warriors.

They're lovely models, but I'm finding out the hard way that there is such a thing as too much detail. I'm not sure I'd want to paint those bad boys, it would take me months.

Interesting mix of base sizes, they look like 25mm and 32mm at a guess. It'll be hard to mix 20mm squares in with that lot, though I suppose we can just put our models onto discs to get the right base size.

At this stage it looks a bit too high fantasy to me, not the LOTR/Game of Thrones low-fantasy I prefer. Too much magical gubbins, not enough body odour and honest toil with a battleaxe.

I look forward to seeing the rules. At least the fluff doesn't sound too bad, I like the idea of good being on the attack for a change, sticking it to the Chaos Gods instead of being bitch-slapped all the time.

    1. Fully agree with you Tane,

I hope however that this aesthetic is just the SigMarines, and does not apply to all the AoS races. Top quality sculpts mind you.

Simply based on 8th, than this new race is a great addition, not my cup-of-tea mind you, but will add an extra slice of diversity into the mix. And i'm sure it'll attract a lot of little Timmys into the game. I can't wait for the rules.

I'm willing to give this game a shot before deciding outright. Bring it on!
