High Elf Book

I purchased three copies of the new High Elf book (one for Peter Williamson), one for me and one surplus to requirements.

They are being dispatched tomorrow.

Should any of the locals want their own brand new copy of 8th Edition's power book then let me know. The NZRRP on this bad boy is $98 but you can have your own copy of the new cheese for $60.

LMK on my usual email. First in, first served however I will give preference to those who don't require on postage.

  1. you can keep preaching it Pete but I'm not buying it's 8th ed power book yet. It's good no question but I don't think it will have the impact ogres did when they came out. The one thing that jumps out is there isn't a single "net build" that just screams optimum unlike Ogres, O&G etc and that is a good thing

    1. Don't really care if you buy it or not James. I'm not preaching....I'm giving my opinion as someone who has read the book and thought about its impact.

For me High Elves are the MAGIC army - Level 4 High Magic Book of Hoth and Loremaster.....

Reliable 2 definite but probably 3 spells a turn.

Banner of the World Dragon is a complete distraction from where the power in this book is.....it is High Magic reliably casting (and dispelling magic).

As I said in a previous post I find it highly amusing that after gushing for 2 weeks now all the High Elf players and all the "I've had a HE army since 1992" High Elf players are now trying to downplay what is an obvious improvement in its power.

At least the honest bandwagoners make no bones about why they are adopting it.

    2. Oh and there is a net build....it has Level 4 BoH High Magic in it AND the BotWD

Let's see how many events top players and yourself attend without that.

    3. I don’t think you need the L4 High, I can see shadow, beasts or heavens working well. Or a light council if you want to be dull. The book would likely be a 1+ on a level 4 but I’ve looked at lists with a star dragon, double loremaster and other options that would work well without the need for L4 high. I can wait to get them out and I have owned the models since 1992 Pete I've still got the card griffon :)

  2. I'm glad High Magic has been improved as I always found it preferable to the others - principally as I could never figure out which one was best and how to use it effectively. High Magic is nice, simple and effective so looking forward to the changes.

Magic heavy seems to be the popular theme but (it must be the Dwarf in me) I still like the idea of combat focused so a Prince, BSB, L2 setup (also because I still cant figure magic out) but I DON'T KNOW YET AS THE STUPID BOOK HASN'T TURNED UP... and Pete has 3 of them already.... sometimes the Dice Gods are cruel.

    1. I had ten..... I burned the first seven because they were too weak.

    2. Now I understand the confusion amongst some HE players. 70% got the too weak version of the book (and should thus burn their copy). Best make sure that you get one of the 30% power versions of the book, so buy from Pete.
