Possible Comp Fix for End Times Khaine Elf Lists

The two most difficult things to comp with the End Times lists have been Legion of Chaos and the Elf Khaine lists. For FOB Lite comp I've addressed LoC by making it Mono-God only but the Elves have been more difficult.

Last evening I was thinking about it again and remembered a discussion I had when Nagash came out. A lot of people thought that ET lists had no access to specific book magic items - as they weren't that book. I never bought that line and I think Imrik settled the argument. However it may provide a solution for the Elves.

What if you said that the Elf lists in Zkhaine are fine - super characters excepted - but they only have access to Commin Magic Items  ie items in the rulebook. That would mean that there were real concessions to taking the combined list - especially no BotWD. Denying access to book specific items might knock the top off the Elf Allsorts list and still leave it viable under FOB Lite.

What do people think?

  1. Would you not just get DE's with a frosty and possibly WE with trueflight and hagbane and wild-riders then? It seems DE's only really use the cloak of twilight. The concession seems a little small.

To fit in with the fluff you could make it compulsory to use at least 25% of points from each army book or use a core unit from each book. The 25% minimum cap from each book would see the combined list take on a real character of its own.

  2. I think a better way would be to something along the lines of the following:
Select a general. You may select units from the list from your race's army book as per normal
Options from other races are moved one slot up the scale, ie core becomes special, special becomes rare, rare are not then selectable.
Eg, player takes a Dark Elf general. He can select Dark Elf units from the Khaine list as per normal. If he wants to take Silver Helms, they are a special selection now, if he wanted White Lions, they become rare. The Dark Elf General cannot take a Frost Phoenix (to go with his Warlocks).
In addition, characters from each race may not join a unit from another race, so you cannot put the BotWD into a unit of Black Guard etc

    1. That seems like a pretty good fix, along with Pete's common magic items thing. You would need to combine them to have some form of penalty for being able to choose additional units over your own 1 race. E.g. DE with the option to have hagbane scouts or wild riders etc in rare is clearly superior to just vanilla DE's.

    2. I have no issue with Army book items being taken, as long as they are only taken by that race and they don't join other races units (in the case of BotWD). 99% of Army book items are fine

    3. This looks pretty good at first glance.

Dark Elf General- No frosties, Waywatchers or High Elf bolt throwers. No BotWD BSB in the Dark Rider or Warlock bus. Book of Hoeth mage has fewer bunkers to leap into.

High Elf General- No Warlocks or Waywatchers, Dark Elf bolt throwers in rare, like the High Elf ones, along with Wild Riders.

Only Wood Elf generals can use a Sisters bus for their mage, and do so without cheap Masters to step up into the front rank.

Question: Does stepping units up a slot from Core to Special to Rare apply to characters? Do Heroes count as Lords and other race Lords can't be taken?

    4. I wouldn't say its needed. Its not like you can combo them up in other races units under the above method. Sorta takes the edge off them. You will just be buying characters to suit the core units in your army any way

    5. Fair enough. Looks good then.

  3. I'd argue it's a moot point with no tournaments scheduled to occur between now and the likely release date of 9th
