HomeCon III Picks

Looking through the HC3 lists I have made my picks on what I think the podium will be be:

1. Tom Dunn (Daemons)
2. Sam Whitt (Savage Orcs, Toys & Night Goblins)
3. Joel van de Ven-Long (Empire)

From the other lists, Peter Williamson's High Elves will mince around the middle tables scoring a 20-0 in the last round to finish 6th.

In no game will Simon Switzer's Dwarf break their shackles and score more than 13 points. If they look like it then they will be struck down with nosebleeds and immediately shrink back into role.

Hamish's WoC will have a much better understanding of Frenzy after the weekend.

Unfortunately for Locky and Wil they will be competing for 2nd Placed Ogre as Spiky Five Bellies ventures forth from the Mountains of the Maw to wreck havoc.

40 games of Warhammer - It's going to be a great weekend!!

  1. I find it so funny how similar this ritual of yours is to my own.

  2. Having faced Hamish's 2 Skull crusher units 7 times now they hit very bloody hard.

    1. Yep....that they do. In fact probably one of the hardest hitters in the game

    2. Yup they hit those two ~50pt divertor units really, bloody hard! ;-)

    3. Sheez that's expensive chaff you got there. Last time I checked 5 archers were 35pts :P

  3. Surely there should be a token Ogre or 2 up there on the podium?

  4. I think everyone who plays Simon should hide in the far table corner for 6 turns. Eventually he'll realise how boring it is and change armies...

You all know its the only way!

    1. Nar that's a crap tactic. Simon's eyes will water up with tears of happiness as he carefully measures the max distance of his cannon and grudge throwers and has a perfect game of "roll a hit on the artillery dice".

Instead you have to deploy outside of xbow and organ gun range with your units in massive long lines so his artillery doesnt do anything all game. Dont engage the Dwarf, but dont let them have their "fun".

I'll be bringing a book to read just incase I draw this game.

    2. I think what needs to happen is everyone needs to stand right at the 24" mark so all my artillery and xbows can get in range. Therefore the game will be super quick because your army will be dead by turn 4.

Game is fast and I win, everyone is one happy!

    3. I am just going to run across the table and smash his smelly Dwarf head in.....and then I will beat him at Warhammer!
Unfortunately shooting doesn't win you games by itself, so if Simons war machines start to die or blow up, then he is in trouble. Good thing about playing Dwarfs is that there turns are so quick it feels like it is constantly your turn!

    4. Really? I find that they still drag their turns out as long as mine... Despite the fact they don't have to move, they still have movement phases as long as anyone else's while they decide whether or not shuffle one unit 1/2" forward or back

    5. Hey I always smell nice! And when your 'running across the table' make sure to step on (foot of Gork) a few of those Savage Orcs, those things are hard to deal with you know!

To be fare I have 3 medium sized blocks to contend with as well. I also have Str5 Crossbows! And I also can recall several games where shooting solely won me the game and the only combat I saw was when I was cleaning the last 5-10 guys that were running away!

Dwarf Warmachines blowing up... that made me laugh Sam. :D

    6. You're not in Masterton now, Doctor Switzer

    7. Masterton, Wellington... all looks the same!

      Now Canada! That's a bit a different.

    8. Not nearly as different as you'd think.. just more snow and moose.

  5. Luckily I have solitaire on my phone so I can stay entertained during Simons shooting phase.

    1. Pete has a house rule that instead of a shooting phase, all 15 other people in the room call the dwarf player a wanker for 20 minutes, then you move on to combat.

    2. Hey they can do it for an hour if they like.

Then they get a cannon ball, two rocks and loads of smaller cannon balls to the FACE! :D

  6. For the record, I recall going into the Masters (and until the end of the 3rd round) a lot of people had my Empire picked for top 3...and I sure havnt forgotten how that ended!

I think (famous last words coming) Pete has made a fatal mistake of taking the same list to 2 events in a row. (other than his mad dice skillz) It cannot be denied that a factor of his success has to come from the WTF factor everyone gets looking at the list he submits...that lasts right up until you tally results and you've lost. BUT coming back for a 2nd game the opponent now has the "A-HA" factor and doesnt spend all game killing spearelves and ignoring the Reavors.

  7. you'd be surprised.
Remember I can evolve how i play a game dependent on what my opponent does. Considering I have more units then basically everyone, who controls the game? me or you?

    1. True true. Just an observation that you no longer have "huh?" factor.

    2. Can I be given the "huh?" factor Joel? Its about all I'm going to get by the looks of it.

    3. I Joel, offically annoint you, Neil, the official "huh?" factor. Anyone willing to take Gobbos with no lvl4 and not maxed out artillery deserves it :P
