Tale of X Gamers - Heresy Edition: First Deadline Approaches

The first deadline for Heresy gamers is later this week and I think that a few are going to fail at the first hurdle.

So far I have seen half of Charlie's Sons of Horus and John Murrie's Word Bearers......and that's it.

I know that I am struggling with my Death Guard, having hit a real painter's block. Currently my tactical unit sits half painted on my table and I am unmotivated to finish them.

So what do you do in this situation? You HTFU!

Painting table has been cleaned. All distractions removed. Now it is just a case of head down, arse up and doing it.

    2. Thanks Shadowmancer! They're looking awesome.

How do you think about doing the Legion markings? I am hestitant to use the Night Lords symbol as I suspect it isn't how FW will end up doing them.

Nice work on the lightening I wasn't sure about including that.

    4. Yeah I was going to ask about that do they actually use legion markings? Or just the numbers?

I've seen a few using the bat-helms as champions and the resin shoulder pads as well what are your thoughts on those? Too 40k?

    5. Im not to worried about the markings of tactical and all that as I think that it is going to be revealed later in the year and it won't be too hard to justify them as terran veterans.

As for the Bat Helms, I think there is one about the time of the Heresy and I think that was either on Sheng or Sevatar. As for the shoulder pads I don't think any of the current ones look not chaosy in some way.

  3. I am really really struggling to get them done.

Tried a few test conversions not happy they don't look Heresy enough. Might have to bite the bullet and buy FW for the next squad.

Can anyone tell me how prevalent was Mk6 armour?

Also Terminators. When did the current "look" come into play or were they like the Cataphracti suits till after the Heresy?

    1. You can use normal terminators if you want, Cataphracti suits were one of the variants of terminator armour that existed

    2. Seems to have been mainly MkIII & IV but the traitor legions had greater access to the MkVI stuff due to relationship with Mechanicum.

I'm using MkIII/IV, some GW models and will be getting FW MkII assault marines next.

    3. You can use the current termies, but need to shave off all the crux terminus details.

  4. Photos to your inbox by close of play tomorrow then :). My marines are painted in all their rhubarb colored glory, just keep mucking about with the bases, which would be done if I'd settle on something. (Legion number will have to come later, I'm not hand painting the whole army)

Heresy went up to Mk IV with Mk V being a catch all term for patchwork armour used as a stopgap after Horus made a mess of forge worlds, it seems that is was held together by bonding studs, which I guess is why the MkV from FW is covered in pimples.

So you might be able to pull off a MkV army, but there are some really good and easy tutorials around on the net to convert Mk 6, 7, 8 to passable heresy era stuff.
