Dark Elves Out Oct/Nov

Heads up from Warpmaster who saw this on a Facebook page:

NEW RUMORS for Warhammer Fantasy! My "source" has sent me pictures of the new Dark Elf release. The Dark Elves will be out in October with a slew of new models:

1) NEW Plastic Dark Elf Warrior Box(Makes Spearmen, swordsmen, & crossbowmen)
2) NEW PLastic Dark Riders/Warlocks
3) NEW Plastic Blackguard/Executioners
4) NEW Plastic Coldone Chariot/Scroungerunner(Pulled by horses)
5) NEW Plastic Cauldron of Blood/Blood Throne(This model is AMAZING)
6) NEW Plastic Hydra/Kraken
7) NEW Plastic Witch Elf box

I suspect it might be November as October was meant to be Mystery Box. But either way this is great news

  1. and just in time for my Birthday. Looks like some nice new models.

I had also heard that the mystery box was cancelled.

  2. New plastic everything? including replacing existing plastics...? If they are coming, they will only get 3 plastic kits, and a handful of finecast like everyone else.

Although from what i'm told Darkies will be soon, followed by dwarves and wood elves, in no particular order.

    1. Tim, the main reason the High Elves only got 3 plastic kits and some characters was because they got 3 special units in plastic back in 2010 or 2011. With the Island of Blood giving plastic Reavers, Sea Guard, Griffon and Swordmasters, there was no need for more than that. The only metal or Finecast units available to them (Reavers, Eagles, Swordmasters) all have plastic alternates elsewhere (LOTR for the Eagle).

Given how much of the Dark Elf range is metal or crappy resin, it's not too much of a stretch that this would be a much larger release than any of the other 8th Edition ones.

The most unbelievable one is the Core unit; GW have let some pretty crappy Core kits stand, and the Dark Elf Spears/Crossbow box isn't that bad.

    2. I agree w you Tane. Are we DE Players getting our swordsmen back ? Rumour has it the book will be Khaine focused. No-one else got rank-and-file, just monsters, monstrous cav and flyers. Doubt there will be a departure, but then again as you say DE are well overdue an overhaul... (As are Dwarfs and Brets)

  3. The 40kRadio facebook page, took a bit of a hit with erroneous rules reporting and the like with the Space Marine codex. So I don't fully believe it.

    1. I don't know what went on with the SM Codex and 40k Radio, but the warseer thread for this announcement seems to be saying they were spot on with the SM Codex.

I'm inclined to believe it, just because I can't see them lying about having seen pics in front of everyone

  5. And Im sorry but where exactly do all of these rumours come from? Are their GW staffers out there blabbing to mates or trying to pick up girls in the pub with lines like "Guess what new miniature I've got..."

    1. I always thought that with the secret squirrel stuff they had to put in place for the Hobbit has meant that GW has become the unofficial source of the leaks.

ie for the last year or so the initial rumours have been the new kits (pings interest), then pics of the kits (more interest....ooooo shiny shiny...cellphone shots of whitedwarf with hints as to what the rules are), then finally the screen shots of rules/rules leaks...then the official emails from GW confirming it all + proper pics/360 degree things of the new models.

Result - the excitement is driven by the kits ($$$) not the rules (nerdrage) as it used to be.

    2. I think using social media, and creating excitement/speculation; (as we are doing now) is part of GWs marketing strategy. Leaking a bit, and creating some smoke and mirrors fluff, disinformation mixed with a bit of truth will keep the fans panting for more...and we create it our selves. Nice to be able to say: "Yes, see, I was right!" Now please allow me to buy that model that I was secretly - and publicly- hoping for!

  6. Bring it on, but I think it is all speculation. We could prob expect flyers, some improvements to combat monstrous cavalry, new monster (Sea Monster/Kraken/Hydra kit) and plastic witches or executioner/black guard kits. No army has got new rank-and-file (no money in this, you see...)Expect big kits and monsters that cost $$$: New Arcane engine/Khaine's Altar/Cauldron; and possibly Chariot/monstrous Cav of sorts.
Stats to improve the elite infantry, and poss if we get really lucky new models for these.
