Praise Be The Horned Rat

In what has been a great week so far - Liverpool destroying Arsenal 5-1, Scum dropping points to bottom of the table Fulham, NZ beating India at cricket - there is icing on the cake.

Apparently the cannons in the army featured in the next Army Book to be released cost 120 points but only do D3 wounds.....perhaps they should have mounted them on a chariot.

What with rolling to hit for Organ Guns....

Cue much grumbling....

  1. Yes if Dwarf cannons are now D3 there will be a lot of grumbling as DoC, Empire, Ogre, WoC, SKAVEN etc everyone else's cannons are all D6. To make up for it Dwarf cannons would either have to be cheaper, or auto hitting and auto wounding with the sniper ability as well, so you can simply point at target and say that model loses D3 wounds.

    1. OR it is to encourage that thing called the "movement phase". A couple of fancy helicopter thingies, devestating charge horns, armour save and parry bonus all seem to rely on "combat" occuring.

+ if they are runed up to the eyeballs with re-rolls, ignore miscasts etc etc then it balances them out...and it makes those bolt thrower things an attractive alternative.

    2. Let me Dwarfs were making Cannons when the Empire were still running around in caves banging sticks together. We then taught the Empire everything it knows about artillery and firearms yet somehow ALL of our artillery and firearms are now inferior to Empire and everybody else? WTF? Oh and lets not forget that we are the race that defeated the High Elf Phoenix King chased him back to his realm chopped his head off and marched back home again with his crown.

      Is that grumbly enough ;)

    4. It is probably to encourage Dwarfs to buy Master Engineer Characters models who probably make cannons D6 wounds. We will all know on Saturday when the book is out

    5. Now what's that sound.....Why it's "grasping at straws"

    6. Hold on hold on hold on. Hugh, that suggestion for Dwarf cannons to auto hit, auto wound with Sniper is probably the single worst idea to fix cannons....ever. Every game would be the non Dwarf player rolling wards, then the Dwarf player rolling D3 wounds for 6 turns. That's more boring than it is now!! Goodbye Vamp, TK and Skaven players.

    7. I really wouldn't mind that rule... sounds legit.

  2. After looking at Plastic Krak blog :) I agree with Jossy, Dwarfs despite being the best smiths in the world make worse armor and war machines then the Empire (who they taught to make armor and war machines), interesting maybe all the dwarfs will know take Empire armies with multiple cannons, steam tanks, mortars and volley guns :)

  3. Guys, seriously, don't feed the rat-troll. You'll just get dirty and he'll get fat and none of us want that.

Save the angst for when the Skaven book is redone and he's wailing about 4 point slaves, a 290 point Abomb and a S3 Doomrocket.

Besides, the cannon is almost certainly not d3 Wounds. And if it is, there's not much we can do about it apart from play Kings of War.

    1. I am not too concerned sounds pretty fair if you can add runes to the flame cannon and organ gun at long last...I am actually excited abnout Warhammer again wghat's happening!

If you are ever in Dunedin Tane I'll take you up on the Kings of War game (you're in Wellington?)

    2. I'd love to try a game, so if I do make it to Dunedin I'll get in touch.

The rumours about the Dwarf book are pros and cons. I wanted a more punchy, more mobile army, and I'm happy to sacrifice shooting and anti-magic for that. We'll find out next week once we have all the facts and some time to begin digesting them.

If the army design is largely unchanged, and a gunline remains the strongest build, then the biggest losers are all the non-Dwarf players out there. I'm happy to blast you off the table, I'm guessing you're not happy to be blasted.

    3. Gyros will be mobile but infantry won't be esp. if Anvil has lost its ability to move people which it appears to have done

    5. I agree with that Tane. I would have liked a tad more mobility even some sort of benefit to swift reforming but overall so far I like the cut of their jib.

Pete your hearing can't be so great after all that warpstone ;) I think you actually hear this:

    6. Nah, far too adventurous....still load up guys, Howling Warpgale and Storm Banner WTF

      Delete
    7. No, WTF is the only way to describe the Storm Banner, it's effects and its points costs. Nice to see some honesty from a Mouse player, even if it is accidental.

      Delete
    8. Nah, definitely WTF.

I can't believe the Banner costs as much as the BotWD and you also have to pay SV tax. And don't get me started on the inflated casting value for Warpgale esp when it only affects BS shooting. Should be cast on a 5, no more

      Delete
    9. You undermine your own argument comparing the Storm Banner with the BotWD, one of the most underpriced and overpowered items in the game. It's like saying that the Ironblaster is rubbish because Doomfire Warlocks and the Skullcannon are so much better.

The Storm Banner is like old-Dwarf book anti-magic; it's a killswitch on an entire phase, albeit one that can bite both players. It'll be a good day when it's gone/nerfed/fairly pointed.

Well to be fair - to benefit from Dwarf anti-magic you have to play Dwarfs, so that in itself is a downside :P

  4. Its just a trial for 9th edition when all cannons will be changed to D3 wounds. GW has been listening to feedback!
Congratulations to the Dwarfs as they got in first.

  5. Lol Pete. I said the same thing about the foolball on FB. Greatest week every. It was such a bonus seeing the entire of Manchester sucking a pile of D***. City 0-0 to NORWICH. LOL!!!

And Arsenal.... just wow, WOW! AND FULHAM... AHHAHAHAHA

But the cannon is not d3 wounds and the organ gun now gets runes to compensate for needing to hit now. Master Enginer can go in the organ gun with BS5. Get owned sons. Hammerers get 2 attacks same points + more crap in the book. No grumbles from me. The Dwarf book looks awesome so far!

@Pete. I'm still holding on to my bears, still a few days to go mate. But otherwise, totally stoked for the book. No grumbles for the most part.
