Solidifying Rumours - 2013 GW Releases

There seems to be solidifying rumours around GW's release schedule for 2013.

In 40k it seems we'll see new Tau Empire in the next two months followed mid-year by rebooted Apocalypse and Eldar. I am surprised that we are not seeing Codex:Space Marines given we are now 9 months into 6th Edition. Perhaps GW will surprise the hoi polloi.

For Fantasy we have two further releases this year. First up will be High Elves (around June/July) with Lizardmen later in the year. Talk of the other two Elves and Dwarfs (hope not) in 2014.

Unfortunately this means no new book for Skaven in 8th Edition. We'll just have to reconcile ourselves to the fact that we will not have access to all the toys that those armies that get new books enjoy. Still at least it will keep those truly devoted to the Horned Rat away while true acolytes soldier on with an outdated book.

  1. Wow, talk about baiting all the skaven haters. Skaven have always had more toys than an other army.

    2. Looks more like Dwarf baiting to me

    3. Finally beat Skaven this week. Hamish is running skaven for Natcon. as is normal for skave, it's filthy for just being Skaven. It's not so bad without the dreaded 13th not getting off once in a game.

  2. High Elves and Lizardmen are in desperate need of a new book book!

    2. Its not that they need new books but that people actually play them as they provide an interesting an enjoyable gaming experience, so GW actually knows they'll sell some models.

    3. The Dwarfs provide me with an interesting and enjoyable gaming experience. I get to sit in the corner and shoot at people! Sounds fun to me!

All I'm asking for a is a monster with three cannons on its back and.... shall I dare say... BEARS!

    4. I pray that GW finds the moral courage to make the hard decisions (as they once did) and resign the Dwarf race since they find themselves unable to do the "Squats in fantasy" archetype justice.

I hope you guys get a whole bunch of flying machines with cannons. I want to see Fantasy go all aerial like 40k!

  3. I salute all you brave Skaven players, soldiering on with an outdated book. A book full of overpointed monsters, ineffective magic items and weak magic lores. With no access to game-changing super spells, cheap redirectors, tarpits and high-leadership. I feel like a bully every time my Dwarves front up to them with our powerful combat, broken magic phase and lightning fast movement. I understand that Tomb Kings and Wood Elf players feel the same. Especially when Skaven players show that they are consumate fluffmasters, with their constant refusal to mix Eshin, Skyre, Pestilens and Moulder units together into super-honed points-efficient lists that defy the army's background.

I know that GW is a business, and needs to generate a profit. But I'd have thought that even the most hardened capitalist would acknowledge the psychic pain of Skaven players across the world, as they fight on against such terrible odds. Surely they'll release a new book this year.

Skaven, the Warhammer equivalent of a rugby team with 11 players. Anyone who plays them, has my deepest respect.

    2. You're welcome Pete. I think it says a lot about my generalship that I am so consistently and resoundingly beaten by such a weak army.

  4. Looking forward to HE in June then... interesting to see how they fix the weak core, ASF and pitiful rare choices. If they hadnt already released the new plastic models Id look forward to the return of Drake mounted Dragon Princes.

Think ill have to bring Dwarfs to Runefang now.... seems ppl just love them SO much ;)

    1. Yep, I reckon I'll take my dwarfs to NiCon in Napier for the same reason, letting people share the joy of knowing there is a dwarf army in the tournament out to get them. There also needs to be at least on dwarf player to challenger Pete at every tournament(although I do recall it's your turn John).

@ Simon: We don't need bears in the new rule book, what we need are:
miners that can charge the turn they arrive,
      slayers with a ward save,
hammerers with at least two attacks and a 4+AS,
runes on the rare choice warmachines,
an anvil of doom that does not blow up,
      thunderers with move and shoot,
pikes/halberds so that we can kill horses/eagles/dragons/spiders/choccoboos/wolves (basically any form of mount) whenever they charge a unit of dwarf warriors or quarrellers,
master engineers able to use crossbows,
and stone throwers with a 5" template.

  5. Codex : Space Marines is very very unlikely to be this year because of the way GW balance out releases across a financial year to reduce the fluctuations in their revenue stream. Basically if they release Chaos, nilla Marines and Guard (afaik the three biggest sellers) all in the same year, then the following year release something like Sisters, Eldar and Tau they get a good year followed by a bad year and the lack of stability (same applies if they did it the other way around) makes investors nervous which hurts GW precious share price. The same applies for Fantasy, I just have no idea what the 'big' and 'small' releases are.

On a completely unrelated note, is Fields of Blood (40k) happening this year? I haven't seen any noises about it at all.
