Skaven Help Needed - Cmon All You Armchair Generals

Adepticon is in just over a week and Jack and I are playing in a 1000 point tournament and in the 1000 point (each) team event.

Now for years I've been hearing any mug can win with Skaven (Rory Maximus), Best Book Ever (Dr Marmalade), Skaven are so overpowered (gas monkey), broken! (Kiwihammer) and Waa Waa Waa (jossy). Well here's your chance!

It would be so easy for me to take 1000 points of Daemons of Chaos but I'd like to at least look at Skaven.

Write me a 1000 point list. Only proviso - no Stormfiends (Thanquol released too late).

I'll even come up with a suitable prize for the winner. Post in Comments section

Edit:

Jacks army is the ever friendly

Master, Dark Pegasus, Heavy Armor, Lance,  Sea Dragon Cloak, Shield, Cloak of Twilight
Master, Dark Pegasus, Heavy Armor, Lance, Sea Dragon Cloak, Charmed Shield, Talisman of Preservation

6 Dark Riders, Musician, Standard bearer, Repeater Crossbows,Shield
5 Dark Riders, Musician, Repeater Crossbows, Shield

5 Doomfire Warlocks (125pts)

Master would be Overlord in Doubles

  2. I couldn't see how to do fighty-hitty at that points level, because 250 points isn't much in your rare slot. So it looks like shooty-magic instead;

    Grey Seer
    BSB with Storm Banner
Level 1 Warlock with Condenser or Scroll
    Naked Engineer
    42 slaves with musician
    40 slaves with musician
    40 slaves with musician
6 Gutter runners with compulsory poison slings
    Warp Lightning Cannon the first
    Warp Lightning Cannon the second

Game plan is pretty self-evident; let the opponent wade through 80+ wounds of slaves, while shooting and magicking him off. GRs to come on behind or on the flank if needed.

In the pairs game at least, if Jack is rocking Dark Elves, he can provide some of the combat punch with his Peg/Steed Masters.

    1. How did that feel? Invigorating?

    2. I don't feel as dirty as I thought I might, put it that way.

Credit where it's due though, this is a slimmed down version of Alan Hughes' list from Vermintide last year, which beasted me (and everyone else).

    4. Maybe I should take Skaven to a tournament. How hard can they be, they play like Dwarves anyway, just with magic.

And even when I lose I win, with mounds of dead rats to scoop up.

I'll let you play my Dwarves. No, it's OK, you don't need to thank me.

  3. My first take was:

Warlord - Charmed Shield, Opal amulet (110)
Chieftain - BSB Std of Discipline (85)
    Engineer - Level 2, Condenser, Doomrocket (150)
Engineer - Level 1, Scroll, Ruby Ring (115)
    Engineer (15)
    Engineer (15)
    2x 40 Slaves - Champ/Muso (172)
    36 Slaves - Champ/Muso (78)
    5 Gutter Runners - slings/poison (90)
    WLC (90)
    WLC (90)

Puts me 5 points over. Suspect I need to drop an Engineer, the Amulet or the Scroll

  4. I have always found, at least at home, that the Abom is an absolute handful at 1000 points.

    Just sayin...

  8. Grey seer 4++
Chieftain bsb with storm banner and shield
30 slaves with Mus and champ (bunker)
    45 slaves with Mus
    45 slaves with Mus
6 gutter runners poison and slings
    HPA.

Bang on 1000points, storm banner to keep the cannons of the hpa until the GR's can get in there to kill them.
Will struggle vs multi wound army's.

  9. Hi Pete,

My takeaway from Adepticon is that:
    * Some of the game VPs will be from capturing terrain, which can only be achieved by units with banners. Don't forget to include at least 2 unit banners in your list.
    * Most armies you will face will have a minimum number of large units, rather than MSU. MSU will work well as long as you don't bleed points and
    * It will be win loss draw, so you need to win by 100+pts. Giving up points on diverters will only work if you can get it back by destroying one of their likely 3 blocks.

  10. Thanks to all that proposed lists. It help me consolidate my thoughts.

I don't believe any were superior to the one I posted and on that basis I've decided to take Daemons instead.

Of the lists put up the best two were Tane and Sam. I'll sort something out.
